Artwork for Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park album by RedTape Design and Miller McCormick
It’s always fun working with Mac Miller, on all his CD covers from The High Life to KIDS to Best Day Ever, so when he asked us to work on his debut album we were pretty excited. But when Mac told us he wanted to name the album BLUE SLIDE PARK, having grown up playing at “Blue Slide Park” ourselves, we were pumped! Even with almost 900,000 1.5 million twitter followers and more momentum than any indie hip-hop artist today, Mac stays true to himself and represents for his city. We know that he goes to great lengths to express his personal vision in every aspect of this project, especially the album artwork. So with Mac’s direction we got straight to the drawing board and brought Mac’s ideas to life.
Working closely with Mac and our friends at Rostrum Records, we were able to refine their vision for the cover and execute something most fans wouldn’t expect. We also had a lot of help from Mac’s brother Miller McCormick, another ill designer who you will be seeing collaborating with Red Tape Design again soon.
The artwork took many turns but in the end we narrowed the image down to its bare essentials, creating an iconic symbol that says it all, even as a tiny iTunes Store icon.
